The Gravitational-Wave Picture of Merging Compact Binaries in the Universe
The LIGO and Virgo gravitational-wave detectors have by now detected hundreds of signals from merging compact binaries. The great majority of the merging objects are black holes, revealing a population of stellar remnants with emerging features. I will summarize the main findings from detected signals through the fourth observing run (O4) of the Advanced LIGO, Virgo and KAGRA detectors.
