Charmed hadron production in the QGSJET-III model and the prompt atmospheric neutrino background

I shall discuss the treatment of charmed hadron production in the QGSJET-III model, including both perturbative and nonperturbative contributions. The magnitude of the perturbative contribution is mainly constrained by experimental studies of D meson production at the Large Hadron Collider. In turn, for the Regge-based treatment of nonperturbative intrinsic charm, the main constraints arise from measurements of Λc baryons at fixed target energies. The model is applied for a calculation of the prompt atmospheric muon neutrino flux and the corresponding uncertainties are discussed.
