The PM data during this time is therefore spurious. A plot of the solar wind alpha particle speeds (from the ACE/SWICS sensor) during Oct 39/30 indicates speeds in excess of 1900 km/s.

A possible shock-pair: a coronal hole-associated high speed stream appears bracketed by a zone 4 forward (17 May 1999, 2354 UT) and zone 1 reverse shock (18 May 1999, 1911 UT). An overview plot shows the timing of the Forward and Reverse shocks relative to the Stream Interface region.

An (incomplete) table summarizing Interplanetary, Geomagnetic, and Galactic Cosmic Ray conditions near the times of the above shock passages is being developed. Shock travel times were derived using launch times estimated from available CME observations (from SoHO EIT and LASCO), solar flare x-ray and particle data, and Type II radio bursts.
